Assessment of Prenatal Care Process Based on Donabedian Model in comprehensive health centers in Hamadan

Abstract:

Background and Objectives: The most wildly used model in measuring and evaluating the quality of health care is the evaluating of services in the field of structure, process and outcome based on the Donabedian model. In this study with emphasise on the role of the prenatal care in improving maternal health, the Donabedian model was investigated. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed in 2019 on 320 pregnant women. The instruments used included midwife and client demographic information questionnaire, care structure, technical performance, satisfaction and interpersonal interaction questionnaires. Data was analyzed with SPSS-16 software and significance level of 0/05 was considered. Results: In this study, the mean scores of the care structure were optimal. The performance of midwives with an average score of 21.19 ± 4.89 was not at the desired level. The highest level satisfaction of clients was the way of providing service in the field of counseling and care with an average of 38.8 ± 6.10 and the lowest level of training received with an average score of 15.60 ± 5.10. Also in the interpersonal interaction section the average overall score of communication skills was 27.80 ± 1.15 and verbal skills were 19.25 ± 2.46, which is at the desired level. But non-verbal skills, active listening and privacy were average. Conclusion: According to the obtained results reforming the distribution of midwives and training them in the field of importance of providing standard of care and communication skills training can increase the quality of care in all dimensions.
